A characteristic old town transformed from a fishing village to a modern holiday centre, Caorle has a thousand year history rooted in Roman civilisation.
Caorle’s history has been linked to that of Venice from its creation to the whole period in which it provided ships and sailors for the Venetian fleet, until its decline, which coincided with that of the Venetian Republic.
The streets of the old town centre give the impression of being in a corner of Venice, with its narrow streets and little squares. Until the mid-19th century the centre was characterised by canals that were filled in over time. A visit to the town has to include the Cathedral, with the beautiful cylindrical bell tower and the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Angelo overlooking the sea.
The Italian Light Athletics Championships will be held in the "G. Chiggiato" Town Stadium in Piazzale Olimpia, Caorle, on September 26th-27th.
